sarah's cottageAlthough this long weekend is the official kick-off to cottage season, pharm fans of Sarah Richardson are already in cottage mode and have lots of ideas for revamping their home-away-from-home, thanks to her latest show, Sarah’s Cottage.  In case you didn’t tune in or missed any of the shows, you can watch full episodes from HGTV Canada right here

Sarah and co-host Tommy Smythe (see the designer profile for Tommy on our website) stopped by the store last summer during filming and picked up all sorts – virtually every room in the cottage features something from The Door Store, some of which can be seen in the gallery photos below (you can see the full Sarah’s Cottage gallery and source guide here).

Sarah’s style is usually very modern.  At the cottage, however, she has embraced the worn finishes of vintage furniture and architectural salvage pieces to lend a casual, family-friendly feel, while maintaining her signature clean hammered nickel knoband fresh style – and it looks great!  Since the kitchen episode aired, we’ve received tons of calls and emails regarding the hammered nickel knobs that Sarah used in her cottage kitchen.  So to answer your questions:  they measure 1.5″ in diameter (the base is 1″) and they cost $10 each.  They are clean and sleek but also have a bit of a vintage feel too.  Come in and check them out, and the rest of our cottage-friendly pieces.  After seeing Sarah’s new getaway, isn’t it time to give the cottage a fresh new look?  It’s like cottages are the new laundry room – they’ve gotten away with being dusty and buggy and even a little scary for years, but now it’s time to let the sun in and get some style in there.  Happy Victoria Day!

P.S. What’s next for Sarah and Tommy?  Sarah’s House 3 is in the works, and Tommy and his crew were just in last week shopping for mantles and other good things.  What to conquer after revamping a suburban split-level and a cottage on an island?  Stay tuned…

note – our hours are unchanged over the long weekend: we’re open Saturday from 10-6, closed Sunday and Monday as always.
