DS Advent Calendar, Day 9: Fireplace mantles

…and apologies for skipping Day 7&8. All I’ll say is that it turns out adults can be struck down by toddler viruses too. So we’ll ease back into our DS Advent Calendar with an obvious holiday gift for your home: a mantle.

Particularly around the holidays, erectile but the rest of the year too, see a good mantle grounds a home in a wonderful way. A vintage mantle can bring a sense of history to a newer home, or bring it back to an old house that has been neglected for too many years. They can frame a wood/gas/electric fireplace – or even be used to make a faux fireplace to make a focal point in any room. After all, you need to hang your stockings somewhere. $250-$3500.

Before you come in to look for a mantle, please measure the actual opening in the wall where your fireplace will go. Besides the width of your chimney, there are fire codes that will determine the minimum size of the mantle. It is a good idea to work with your contractor or whoever is installing your fireplace, as they will be knowledgeable in the fire code allowances.
